As we go into 2016 my wish for myself and for everyone is that we learn how to detach. Specifically, I hope that we learn how to detach from the need of approval and to not be destroyed by criticism. Of course this will be hard because we are a generation of Likes and being followed, but would you be just as confident with the photos, writing, and achievements in your life if no one liked them or even worse they criticized them. I can honestly say that I am at the point in my life where I am not concerned about being liked, but I struggle with criticism and not living up to other people’s expectations. How am I working through this? I am learning to not only accept both my strengths and weaknesses, but to also embrace them and acknowledge that it is the combination of both my strengths and weaknesses that make me the unique and interesting person I am. I also have realized that when people are critical of me it says more about what that person is dealing with than it has to do with me. Detaching is the key to growth and freedom because it allows you to live a life that promotes creativity, honesty and builds self-love. Detaching allows you to always be true to yourself without the dreaded anxiety of wondering what other people will think.
